Indian Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who has set many milestones in cricket, has been a real hero off the field too. Tendulkar lent a helping hand to his old friend Dalbir. Despite having a hectic schedule, Tendulkar visited one of his old friends, Dalbir Singh Gill at an Ahmedabad hospital.
It was revealed that Sachin arranged the medical treatment
for Dalbir and was instrumental in giving a new lease of life to him.
Sachin and Dalbir played together under-15 and under-17 level. Dalbir
played for Gujarat and represented West Zone till 2001. He met with a
fatal road accident in 2002. Dalbir was in coma and given steroids
after the accident, which damaged his hip joints.
Sachin talked to
former BCCI Physio Dr. Anant Joshi, who advised to shift Dalbir to
Ahmedabad. Dalbir Singh under-went the hip-replacement surgery at
Shelby hospital in Ahmedabad. The total cost was around Rs 5 lakh and
Sachin bore the entire expenses. Dalbir is reportedly doing well
after the surgery and may soon be able to walk again. His family
members consider Sachin as a saviour and expressed their gratitude
towards the cricketer.
In
2002, Dalbir's motorcycle collided with a tanker which left him in a
state of coma for eight months after suffering multiple brain
injuries and he even lost the power to walk. Now, Sachin's
intervention will give him a chance to start a new innings.
